The Defence Minister, Sadio Camara, has reportedly been killed in a coordinated wave of attacks targeting key military installations, according to Al Jazeera.
The report indicates that the attacks were carried out by fighters linked to Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM) in collaboration with Tuareg armed groups, striking multiple locations, including the garrison town of Kati, where the minister’s residence came under heavy assault.
According to the outlet, the operation involved intense gunfire and possible suicide attacks, underscoring a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict.
However, there has been no official confirmation from authorities regarding the minister’s death.
Camara, a central figure in the military-led administration following recent coups, has been instrumental in shaping the country’s security framework.
His reported death, if confirmed, would represent a major blow to the leadership and armed forces.
Meanwhile, Interim President Assimi Goita is reported to be safe, as security forces continue to respond to the attacks.
The situation remains fluid, with further details expected as authorities provide clarification.
