A tragic explosion has claimed the life of a local hunter during a joint security patrol in Adamawa State, according to a report by Daily Post Nigeria.

The incident reportedly occurred on April 24 in Gombi Local Government Area, as troops of the 232 Battalion (Tactical), alongside members of a local hunters’ group, conducted a routine patrol operation around the Member Farm and Dogon Kuka axis.

Security sources cited in the report indicated that the patrol team was returning along the Garkida–Gombi route when an accidental detonation occurred.

The explosion was said to have been triggered after a hunter unknowingly stepped on a primed rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) tube positioned inside a gun truck.

The victim sustained critical injuries, including a severe fracture to the leg, and was immediately evacuated to a medical facility. However, he later succumbed to his injuries.

A counter-insurgency analyst in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, disclosed details of the incident, noting that it highlights ongoing operational risks faced by joint security teams in volatile areas.

While authorities are yet to issue an official statement, the development underscores persistent security challenges in parts of northeastern Nigeria, where both military personnel and local vigilante groups continue to collaborate in counter-insurgency operations.
