Frontline politician and prominent supporter of the Obidient Movement, Rex Chinye Biose, has emerged as the Labour Party’s candidate for the Delta North Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Biose secured the party’s ticket during the Labour Party senatorial primary congress held in Asaba, where delegates and party members from the nine local government areas of Delta North Senatorial District unanimously endorsed his candidacy through voice affirmation.

His emergence marks a significant milestone in the party’s preparations for what is expected to be a keenly contested senatorial race in the Anioma region.

Speaking shortly after being declared the party’s flag bearer, Biose expressed appreciation to party leaders, delegates, and supporters for the confidence reposed in him, assuring them of purposeful and people-oriented representation.

He said the time had come for a new style of leadership anchored on accountability, inclusiveness, and grassroots development.

According to him, the aspirations and welfare of the people must take precedence over personal and political interests.

“It is no longer business as usual. It must be business unusual if the Anioma people are to be liberated from political servitude and empowered to realize their full potential,” he stated.

Biose pledged to prioritise the needs of the people of Delta North and promised to unveil a comprehensive development agenda in the coming weeks.

He said his blueprint would focus on infrastructure development, human capital advancement, youth empowerment, and strategic interventions aimed at improving the quality of life across the senatorial district.

The Labour Party candidate also stressed the need for greater accountability in governance, noting that elected representatives must remain accessible and responsive to the people they serve.

The primary election was conducted by the party’s National Treasurer and Returning Officer, Mr. Hamisu Santuraki, who supervised the affirmation process for all contested positions.

Also affirmed during the exercise were the party’s presidential candidate, Dr. Okereke Chibuzor; governorship candidate, Ms. Esther James; Delta Central Senatorial candidate, Mr. Oshiokhue Enanekhe Christopher; and Delta South Senatorial candidate, Mr. Ferdinand Efejemu.

Candidates for the House of Representatives and State House of Assembly seats were equally returned through the party’s nomination process.

The exercise was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), including Mr. Harrison Toria and Mrs. Adaobi Ndubuisi, as well as a representative of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Fidel Emeni.

Political analysts say Biose’s emergence has added a new dimension to the contest for the Delta North Senatorial seat, which is expected to attract significant attention ahead of the general election.

The race is likely to feature some of the state’s most prominent political figures, setting the stage for a vigorous campaign centred on development, effective representation, and leadership accountability.

As political activities gather momentum across the Anioma nation, stakeholders and voters will be closely watching the unfolding contest, which many believe could reshape the political landscape of Delta North in the years ahead.
