Wife of the Delta State Governor and Founder of the You Matter Charity Foundation, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, on Tuesday empowered 500 women across the state with cash grants, sewing machines and grinding machines through a partnership with Fidelity Bank Plc.

The empowerment programme, held at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba, was organised by Fidelity Bank in collaboration with the You Matter Charity Foundation under the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, “Give Her Power.”

Addressing beneficiaries at the event, Deaconess Oborevwori described the initiative as a life-changing intervention aimed at promoting economic inclusion, supporting families and restoring hope among women in Delta State.

According to her, the programme goes beyond material support, as it represents a deliberate effort to uplift women and strengthen communities through economic empowerment.

“Today’s event reflects the commitment of Fidelity Bank Plc and the You Matter Charity Foundation to improving lives and creating opportunities for women.

It is not merely about distributing items or cash, but about transforming lives, restoring hope and building stronger families and communities,” she said.

The Delta First Lady noted that women remain central to the growth and stability of society, stressing that empowering women directly contributes to sustainable community development.

She commended Fidelity Bank for partnering with her foundation to support women at the grassroots, saying the collaboration demonstrates the impact achievable when corporate organisations invest in social development initiatives.

Giving a breakdown of the support package, Deaconess Oborevwori disclosed that 400 women received cash grants amounting to N20 million, while 50 beneficiaries got grinding machines and another 50 were presented with sewing machines to enhance their businesses and livelihoods.

She further announced an additional N20 million donation from the You Matter Charity Foundation, increasing the cash grant for each of the 400 beneficiaries from N50,000 to N100,000.

She urged the women to make prudent use of the support provided by investing in and expanding their businesses for the benefit of their families and communities.

Deaconess Oborevwori also reaffirmed her commitment to advancing women’s empowerment and social inclusion in the state, while encouraging more corporate organisations to support initiatives targeted at improving the lives of women.

Earlier, Executive Director, South, Fidelity Bank Plc, Pamela Shodipo, said the initiative underscored the bank’s commitment to community development through its Fidelity Helping Hands Programme.

She explained that the platform enables staff of the bank across various branches and regions to identify and support impactful projects capable of improving livelihoods in their host communities.

Mrs. Shodipo stated that Fidelity Bank contributed N20 million to the You Matter Charity Foundation for the empowerment programme, noting that empowering women creates lasting positive effects on families, businesses and society at large.

She praised the Delta State First Lady for her dedication and partnership in ensuring that the intervention reached deserving beneficiaries.

Also speaking, the Regional Bank Head, Augusta Anyanwu-Egbom, advised beneficiaries to cultivate healthy saving habits, maintain excellent customer relations and improve the packaging of their products to build sustainable businesses.

Responding on behalf of beneficiaries, Mrs. Joy Osegbuwa expressed gratitude to Deaconess Oborevwori and Fidelity Bank for the intervention, describing the initiative as timely and impactful for women traders and small business owners across Delta State.
