Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has reaffirmed his administration’s determination to complete all ongoing infrastructure projects across the state before the expiration of his tenure, stressing that projects with direct impact on the lives of citizens remain a top priority.
The governor gave the assurance on Monday while speaking with journalists after an inspection tour of several strategic projects in Maiduguri, the state capital.
Among the projects visited were the 4,000-seat International Conference Centre, the Post Office Flyover, and the dualisation of the 2.5-kilometre Tandari–Neitel Shoe–Tennary Road corridor through the Maiduguri Cattle Market.
Expressing satisfaction with the pace and quality of work at the sites, Zulum commended contractors for the progress recorded, particularly on the International Conference Centre and the Post Office Flyover.
“So far, we have visited all the project sites, and I am impressed with the level of work done, especially at the International Conference Centre and the Post Office Flyover,” the governor said.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring that all critical projects are completed and delivered to the people before the end of his tenure.
“Insha Allah, we shall leave no stone unturned to ensure that all projects with direct impact on the lives of our people are completed before the end of our administration,” he stated.
Governor Zulum disclosed that the International Conference Centre has been scheduled for completion in September, while contractors handling the Post Office Flyover have been directed to deliver the project within the next 30 to 40 days.
According to him, strict timelines have been established to ensure timely completion of the projects and maximize their socio-economic benefits to residents.
“We have fixed September as the completion date for the International Conference Centre, while the Post Office Flyover is expected to be completed within the next 30 to 40 days. I am here personally to assess the progress and ensure that contractors meet the agreed deadlines,” he said.
The governor noted that the administration has successfully executed hundreds of projects across the state and remains committed to completing all ongoing initiatives while exploring opportunities for additional development projects.
“The people of Borno State are happy because we have delivered numerous projects across different sectors. We will ensure that ongoing projects are completed, and where possible, we shall introduce additional projects that will further improve the lives of our citizens,” he added.
Zulum urged contractors to take advantage of the favourable weather conditions to accelerate construction activities, assuring them of the state’s continued financial support to facilitate timely project delivery.
He also warned that any aspect of the projects not completed within the stipulated timeframe would be reassigned to relevant government agencies to prevent unnecessary delays.
“Any component of the work that cannot be completed by the contractor within the agreed period will be taken over by the Ministry of Works to ensure the projects are delivered on schedule,” the governor warned.
On concerns relating to compensation for residents affected by the Post Office Flyover project, Governor Zulum assured that the government would honour all legitimate claims and ensure that those impacted by the development receive their due compensation.
