The Delta State Police Command has recorded 23 convictions following the ongoing statewide enforcement of traffic regulations aimed at promoting road safety, public order, and compliance with traffic laws across the state.
The convictions arose from the prosecution of 26 motorists arrested for various traffic-related offences during a recent enforcement exercise conducted by the Command in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police and its commitment to ensuring safer roads and improved compliance with extant regulations.
The offenders were arraigned before a Mobile Court provided by the Delta State Government for speedy adjudication of traffic-related cases.
According to the Command, the enforcement operation is designed to address violations that pose risks to road users, undermine public safety, and disrupt the orderly use of highways and urban roads.
At the conclusion of the court proceedings, 23 offenders were convicted and ordered to pay fines corresponding to the offences committed, while three others were discharged and acquitted.
The outcome, the Command noted, underscores its determination to enforce traffic laws through lawful, transparent, and accountable procedures while ensuring that offenders are held responsible for actions that endanger public safety.
Commenting on the development, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reiterated the Command’s resolve to sustain the enforcement exercise across all parts of the state.
He warned that motorists and other road users who violate traffic regulations would continue to face appropriate legal sanctions, stressing that compliance with traffic laws remains essential to reducing accidents, protecting lives, and maintaining order on the roads.
The Police Commissioner also advised vehicle owners to ensure that their vehicles are properly registered, documented, and operated in accordance with the law, adding that adherence to traffic regulations contributes significantly to effective policing and public security.
CP Oyeniyi assured residents that the Command would continue to implement proactive measures aimed at promoting responsible road use and safeguarding lives and property throughout Delta State.
The Delta State Police Command further urged members of the public to support ongoing law enforcement efforts by observing traffic rules and cooperating with security agencies in the collective pursuit of safer roads and communities.
