The Delta State Police Command has intensified the enforcement of vehicle registration regulations, impounding 26 vehicles in Asaba and its environs for operating without valid registration number plates or using concealed, altered, defaced, and unreadable number plates.
The enforcement operation, carried out on June 19, 2026, was personally led by the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi John Oyeniyi, in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, aimed at strengthening public safety and enhancing crime prevention across the country.
According to the Command, the exercise forms part of ongoing efforts to improve vehicle identification, curb criminal activities, and ensure compliance with extant vehicle registration laws.
The operation resulted in the impoundment of 26 vehicles found to be in violation of the regulations. The affected motorists were subsequently arraigned before a Mobile Court sitting in Asaba for the relevant offences.
Speaking during the enforcement exercise, CP Oyeniyi emphasized the importance of complying with vehicle registration requirements, urging motorists to obtain approved number plates and ensure they are properly displayed at all times.
He noted that the enforcement initiative is not intended to inconvenience law-abiding citizens but to enhance security, facilitate effective policing, and prevent criminals from exploiting unregistered or improperly registered vehicles to evade detection.
“The proper registration and identification of vehicles remain critical components of our security architecture. We therefore urge all vehicle owners to comply with the law and avoid actions that may attract sanctions,” the Commissioner stated.
CP Oyeniyi further warned that the operation would be sustained across the state, directing the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations to ensure strict enforcement of the directive in all Area Commands, Divisions, and tactical formations.
He reiterated the Command’s commitment to proactive, intelligence-driven policing and assured residents that the police would continue to implement measures designed to safeguard lives and property throughout Delta State.
The Delta State Police Command also called on members of the public to support ongoing security initiatives by adhering to traffic and vehicle registration regulations, stressing that compliance remains essential to maintaining law and order and strengthening public safety across the state.
