The Delta State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on cultism and violent crime with the arrest of two suspected cultists and the recovery of a firearm, ammunition, charms, and suspected illicit substances during a targeted operation in Ibusa, Oshimili North Local Government Area.
The suspects, identified as Okonkwo Prosper, 26, and Tuesday Emmanuel, 25, both natives of Aniofu in Aniocha North Local Government Area, were apprehended by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Cultism Unit (CACU) following a coordinated intelligence-led operation carried out late on June 19, 2026.
According to the Police Command, the operation was executed at a location believed to be a hideout for criminal elements involved in cult-related activities within Ibusa and surrounding communities.
Items recovered during the raid included one English-made pump-action gun loaded with five live cartridges, a cutlass, charms, and substances suspected to be illicit drugs.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects are alleged members of a cult group linked to a series of cult-related clashes that have contributed to insecurity in parts of Oshimili North and neighbouring communities.
The Command disclosed that the suspects are currently in custody while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the group who escaped during the operation.
Commenting on the development, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to combating cultism, violent crimes, and other criminal activities across the state.
The Police Commissioner warned individuals involved in cult-related activities to desist from such acts or face the full consequences of the law, stressing that the Command would continue to deploy intelligence-driven strategies to dismantle criminal networks and enhance public safety.
He also appealed to residents to sustain their support for the police by providing timely and credible information that would aid ongoing crime-fighting efforts and help maintain peace and security in their communities.
The latest arrest forms part of the Delta State Police Command’s sustained campaign against cultism and other violent crimes, aimed at ensuring a safer environment for residents and investors across the state.
