The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has passed a vote of confidence in its National President, Alhassan Yahya, citing notable progress in members’ welfare, capacity development, and institutional reforms.
The resolution was part of the communiqué issued at the end of the NEC meeting held in Abuja on April 29, 2026, under the leadership of Comrade Yahya.
NEC commended the national leadership for introducing impactful initiatives aimed at repositioning the union, with particular reference to the successful hosting of the council meeting without external financial support.
The council described the achievement as a demonstration of prudent management and commitment to strengthening the union’s independence.
In a separate resolution, NEC addressed the issue of membership revalidation, reiterating that no State Council is authorized to undertake such an exercise without prior approval from the National Secretariat.
The council emphasized that conducting membership revalidation during an election year is inconsistent with existing NUJ guidelines.
Consequently, NEC directed the Delta State Council to immediately reverse its ongoing membership revalidation exercise in compliance with the union’s established procedures.
The council reaffirmed its commitment to upholding institutional discipline, transparency, and unity across all levels of the union.
