The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Yemi Oyeniyi, psc, acipm, mnips, has emphasized the importance of collective action in tackling security challenges, noting that sustainable peace and development can only be achieved through strong collaboration among stakeholders.
Oyeniyi made the call while delivering a lecture titled “Security: A Collective Responsibility – The Roles of Government, Communities and Civil Society Organisations in Security Management” at the Delta State Government Security Summit convened by the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.
The high-level summit was held on Tuesday, June 17, 2026, at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba.
In his presentation, the Police Commissioner underscored the need for enhanced synergy between government institutions, security agencies, traditional rulers, community leaders and civil society organisations in addressing emerging security threats across the state.
He stressed that security management should not be seen as the sole responsibility of law enforcement agencies, but rather as a shared duty requiring active participation from all segments of society.
According to him, effective intelligence sharing, community vigilance, and proactive engagement remain critical tools in preventing crime and maintaining public safety.
The Commissioner further reaffirmed the commitment of the Delta State Police Command to strengthen partnerships with stakeholders in order to sustain ongoing efforts toward peace and stability in the state.
The summit brought together top government officials, security chiefs, traditional rulers and representatives of civil society organisations to deliberate on practical strategies for enhancing security architecture in Delta State
