The Osun State Police Command has vowed to ensure that those responsible for the killing of Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as “Emir Ajagungbade,” are arrested and brought to justice.

The development comes as an update to The Story’s report on the death of the aide to Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, following the shooting incident in Ile-Ife on Sunday.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed in a statement that a full-scale investigation had commenced to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing.

According to Ojelabi, the police are investigating both the immediate and remote causes of the incident while working to identify and apprehend all those connected with the attack.

He said the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, directed officers to the scene after receiving a report of a road traffic accident near the Energy Filling Station in Ile-Ife.

Ojelabi said that upon arrival, police operatives secured the area, restored order and, during preliminary investigations, discovered that Oyeyemi had sustained fatal gunshot injuries.

The Commissioner of Police condemned the killing and appealed to residents, community leaders and other stakeholders to remain calm and allow the police to conduct their investigation.

Zungura also warned against reprisal attacks, destruction of property and other forms of criminality, stressing that anyone found culpable would face the law.

The police commissioner commiserated with the family, friends and associates of the deceased, assuring residents that the command remained committed to protecting lives and maintaining peace across the state.

He further urged members of the public with relevant information about the incident to make such information available to the police to assist the ongoing investigation.

The command reiterated its determination to uncover the circumstances surrounding the killing and ensure that those responsible are brought to book.
