…Governor reaffirms commitment to inclusive development across Delta
The Ndokwa Nation, through its apex socio-cultural body, the Ndokwa Neku Union (NNU), has passed a vote of confidence in Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, citing his inclusive governance style, equitable distribution of projects, and commitment to sustainable development across the state.
The endorsement was delivered on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the NNU, alongside elders and key stakeholders of Ndokwa Nation, to the Governor at Government House, Asaba.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, President-General of the Ndokwa Neku Union, Chief Amaechi Asugwuni, said the visit was aimed at expressing appreciation to the Governor for what he described as his administration’s impactful interventions in Ndokwa land and other parts of Delta State.
He noted that the people of Ndokwa had continued to benefit from the Governor’s commitment to fairness, accessibility and balanced development, adding that his administration had demonstrated purposeful leadership through tangible projects and policies.
Asugwuni specifically commended the completion and handover of Ndokwa House, describing the facility as a historic achievement that would serve as a hub for consultation, strategic planning and the preservation of the collective interests of the Ndokwa people.
He also lauded the completion of the Asaba-Kwale-Ughelli Road, noting that the project had significantly enhanced connectivity between Ndokwa communities and the state capital while creating an important alternative transportation corridor.
The NNU President-General further praised Governor Oborevwori’s open-door leadership style, stating that requests for meetings and consultations had consistently received prompt attention.
While appreciating the administration’s achievements, Asugwuni highlighted the persistent electricity challenges facing communities in Ndokwa land and appealed for the implementation of the proposed Okpai Step-Down Facility to improve power supply in the area.
He, however, strongly condemned the vandalism of public infrastructure, particularly electricity facilities, stressing that such acts undermine development efforts and deprive communities of essential services.
According to him, community leaders were already collaborating with relevant stakeholders to strengthen local security and prevent future attacks on critical infrastructure.
The Ndokwa leader also appealed for the establishment of additional higher institutions and the execution of key infrastructure projects in the area, including strategic road networks capable of driving economic growth and improving connectivity.
“As a people, we unanimously pass a vote of confidence in Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in recognition of his exemplary, inclusive and development-oriented leadership,” Asugwuni declared.
Responding, Governor Oborevwori thanked the Ndokwa Nation for its support and confidence in his administration, assuring the people that his government would continue to prioritize the development of every part of Delta State.
The Governor commended the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, for his dedication and contributions to the growth and progress of the state, while also applauding the leadership qualities of the NNU President-General.
Addressing concerns over electricity supply, Oborevwori acknowledged the challenges confronting affected communities and attributed part of the setbacks to repeated incidents of vandalism targeting power infrastructure.
He disclosed that the state government had approved additional funding for ongoing electrification projects and assured that efforts were underway to restore power and improve electricity access in the affected areas.
The Governor further revealed that the administration was engaging the Transmission Company of Nigeria and other stakeholders to find lasting solutions to power challenges, adding that the proposed Okpai Step-Down Facility remained under active consideration.
He commended the Ndokwa Nation for publicly denouncing vandalism, noting that the destruction of public assets not only increases project costs but also delays development.
On requests for additional tertiary institutions, Oborevwori observed that the area already hosts a federal university and urged stakeholders to focus on strengthening existing educational facilities while assuring them that several requested road projects had either been approved or were already at various stages of execution.
The Governor emphasized that Ndokwa people continued to occupy strategic positions within his administration, including the offices of the Deputy Governor, Commissioner for Energy and Commissioner for Finance, assuring the delegation that their interests remained well represented.
Speaking on the 2027 political landscape, Oborevwori said Delta State’s prevailing political arrangement promotes continuity, stability and inclusiveness, stressing that his administration remains focused on delivering projects and improving the lives of citizens.
He reiterated his commitment to serving all Deltans without regard to ethnic or political affiliations.
“What I do for Ndokwa, I will do for Isoko, Ijaw, Urhobo, Anioma and every other part of the state. The evidence is visible across Delta State. Our projects are spread throughout the state, and we are focused on delivering results,” the Governor stated.
He thanked the delegation for presenting a united front comprising traditional rulers, political leaders, lawmakers and council chairmen, assuring them of the state’s continued partnership in promoting development, unity and prosperity across Delta State.
