The All Progressives Congress (APC) women’s support group, Women Divas, has commenced a grassroots mobilisation campaign across Katsina State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group said its mobilisation drive would cover all 34 local government areas and 361 political wards in the state, with a focus on encouraging women to participate actively in the electoral process and support the party’s candidates.
National Coordinator of the Women Divas, Huraira Usman, disclosed this on Monday at a press conference in Katsina, where she said members had already been deployed to communities across the state.
According to her, the initiative is designed not only to mobilise women to vote but also to increase their awareness of their political rights and encourage more women to seek elective and appointive positions.
Usman said the immediate priority of the group was to rally women behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda for the 2027 elections.
She explained that the group believes continued support for the two leaders would enable them to consolidate ongoing policies and programmes aimed at strengthening the economy and improving the welfare of citizens.
“We are fully prepared to take the message of the APC to every woman in Katsina State. Our target is to ensure that women are educated, sensitised and mobilised to come out en masse and support our party’s candidates,” Usman said.
She noted that women constitute a significant proportion of registered voters in the country, citing figures released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) which, according to her, put female voters at about 60 per cent.
Despite their numerical strength, Usman expressed concern over what she described as inadequate political awareness and low participation of women in governance and decision-making processes.
She said the Women Divas would intensify its sensitisation campaigns to equip women with the knowledge required to exercise their political rights and contribute more meaningfully to the development of Katsina State and Nigeria.
The APC women’s group also commended President Tinubu and Governor Radda for what it described as their commitment to women’s inclusion in governance, particularly through the appointment of women into government positions and the implementation of social investment programmes targeted at women.
Usman said the group would sustain its grassroots engagement as the 2027 elections approach, with the objective of ensuring greater participation of women in the political process.
