The newly deployed Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Samuel Etaifo Erale, has pledged to strengthen security across the state through intelligence-driven policing, community partnerships, professional conduct and strict adherence to the rule of law.
Erale, who is the 25th Commissioner of Police in the Delta State Command, made the commitment on Tuesday September 1, 2026, during his inaugural press briefing, at the Command’s headquarters, where he outlined his policing agenda and priorities for the command.
The new police boss said the protection of lives and property would remain the central focus of his administration, assuring residents and visitors that the command would work within the law to create a safer environment across the state.
“I am fully aware of the responsibility that comes with this office; hence, the safety of lives and property in Delta State is our priority,” he said.
Erale noted that Delta State occupies a strategic position in Nigeria’s economy and the Niger Delta, making an effective security architecture essential to sustaining economic growth, development and stability.
He acknowledged that while the state offers significant economic opportunities, it also faces security challenges which require coordinated and proactive policing.
According to him, his administration will pursue disciplined, intelligence-led and community-oriented policing aimed at preventing and detecting crime, apprehending and prosecuting offenders, protecting residents and rebuilding public confidence in the police.
Focus on Discipline and Professionalism
A major component of the CP’s agenda is the promotion of discipline and professionalism within the command.
Erale said officers would be required to strictly observe the Police Rules and Regulations, ethical standards and Public Service Rules, while ensuring that their conduct remains subject to the rule of law.
He pledged zero tolerance for corruption, extortion and other forms of professional misconduct, while promising to recognise and reward officers who demonstrate integrity, courage and exceptional commitment to duty.
He said respect for human rights would also remain a key requirement in the discharge of police responsibilities across the state.
Stronger Community Partnership
The Commissioner also identified community policing as a critical component of his administration’s strategy for tackling crime.
He said the command would deepen engagement with traditional rulers, community leaders, youth organisations, women’s groups, religious bodies and other stakeholders to develop security responses that reflect the peculiar needs of individual communities.
Erale urged residents to support the police by providing timely and credible information about suspicious activities, stressing that effective crime prevention depends largely on collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve.
He said the command would work towards making the police more accessible, responsive and accountable to the people.
The Commissioner stated that the overall objective of his administration was to establish a professional and coordinated policing system capable of protecting lives and property, preventing and detecting crime, bringing offenders to justice and ensuring that Delta State remains safe for residents, businesses and visitors.
He called for the cooperation and support of the people of Delta State, stressing that sustainable security could only be achieved through a shared commitment between the police, government, communities and other stakeholders.
