A frontline governorship aspirant in Taraba State, David Sabo Kente, popularly known as DSK, has declared that his political ambition is driven solely by divine guidance, insisting that he has no political godfather apart from God Almighty.

DSK made the declaration on Thursday, May 14, 2026, while addressing journalists in Jalingo, where he also outlined his vision for the state ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The governorship hopeful said his decision to seek the office was motivated by what he described as the urgent need to reposition Taraba State and address what he termed years of declining development and poor governance.

According to him, the state has witnessed significant setbacks in infrastructure and service delivery, despite the expectations many had when the current administration came into office.

“We supported the emergence of the incumbent governor because we believed his military background and experience would translate into effective leadership and rapid development, but unfortunately the reality has not matched the expectations of the people,” he stated.

DSK particularly lamented the deteriorating condition of the Jalingo-Wukari road, noting that a journey that previously took about two hours now stretches beyond five hours due to poor road conditions.

While acknowledging that the road is under federal control, he argued that proactive state governments across the country have often intervened in rehabilitating federal roads before seeking reimbursement from the Federal Government.

He maintained that Taraba State requires visionary leadership with the competence, commitment, and political will to deliver meaningful dividends of democracy to the people.

The aspirant further disclosed that many political actors who supported the current administration did so out of genuine hope for infrastructural growth and improved governance across the state.

Speaking on the issue of consensus arrangements within political parties, DSK said he supports consensus candidacy only when it is transparent, voluntary, and based on mutual agreement among stakeholders rather than imposition.

According to him, any consensus process lacking fairness and inclusiveness would not reflect democratic principles. He expressed confidence that under a transparent process, he would emerge victorious.

He also cautioned against what he described as undemocratic practices in party primaries, insisting that electoral outcomes should reflect the genuine wishes of party members rather than external influence or manipulation.

DSK declared that political endorsements or support from powerful interests would not override the collective will of the electorate, stressing that the people ultimately determine electoral outcomes through their votes.

Reaffirming his independence, the aspirant said he does not rely on political godfathers or external influence, maintaining that his faith and confidence remain in God.

On national issues, DSK expressed support for the economic reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing the policies as difficult but necessary measures capable of yielding long-term benefits for Nigerians.

The economist also called for the re-election of President Tinubu in 2027, saying continuity would enable Nigerians fully benefit from the ongoing economic reforms and policies of the administration.
