BREAKING NEWS: APC Fixes August 22 For Primaries In Restored Delta Assembly Seats, Others

1

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has scheduled Saturday, August 22, 2026, for its primary election to select candidates for three recently restored State House of Assembly constituencies in Delta State.

The exercise is part of the party’s timetable for primaries to fill four restored Assembly constituencies in Delta and Kogi states, as well as vacancies arising from legislative bye-elections in Gombe, Bauchi, Delta and Kano states.

The timetable, signed by the APC National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu, was released on Wednesday following the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to restore four previously suppressed State House of Assembly constituencies.

The affected Delta constituencies are Abraka, Isoko North II and Ughelli South II, while Yagba West II is the affected constituency in Kogi State.

For the legislative bye-elections, the APC listed Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in Gombe State; Disina and Sakwa State Constituencies in Bauchi; Udu State Constituency in Delta; and Dawakin Kudu State Constituency in Kano.

According to the timetable, the sale of expression of interest and nomination forms will run from Tuesday, August 18, to Thursday, August 20, with the deadline for submission of completed forms and accompanying documents also fixed for August 20.

The party will conduct the screening of aspirants, publish screening results and entertain screening appeals on Friday, August 21.

The primary elections will then hold on Saturday, August 22, while appeals arising from the exercise are scheduled for Monday, August 24.

The APC pegged the expression of interest fee for House of Assembly aspirants at N1 million and the nomination fee at N5 million, bringing the total to N6 million.

For House of Representatives aspirants, the expression of interest fee is N1 million, while the nomination fee stands at N9 million, bringing the total to N10 million.

The party, however, stated that female, youth and physically challenged aspirants would pay the prescribed expression of interest fee and 50 per cent of the applicable nomination fee.

It also directed aspirants to make all payments in full directly into the designated APC bank account.

The development follows INEC’s restoration of the four previously suppressed constituencies in Delta and Kogi after a series of court judgments.

The constituencies had remained without direct representation in their respective State Houses of Assembly for several years.

The APC timetable also covers the forthcoming legislative bye-elections in the four states, including the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency, which became vacant following the death of the serving lawmaker, Tongo Yaya.
