The Ogwashi-Uku Youth Development Association has dissolved its National Executive Council (NEC) following the expiration of its tenure and inaugurated a five-member Caretaker Committee to oversee the affairs of the association pending fresh elections.

The decision was reached during a one-day emergency congress held on July 3, 2026, at the Ogwashi-Uku Town Hall in Ogwashi-Uku.

The resolutions were contained in a communiqué jointly signed by the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee, Chiazor Francis Ogbogu, and the Chairman of the Communiqué Drafting Committee, Evans Anwulidinunor.

According to the communiqué, the emergency congress was convened to address leadership transition and governance issues within the association under the theme, “Strengthening, Re-organising OYDA and Ensuring Leadership Stability.”

The congress, which drew participants from Ogwashi-Uku and branches of the association across the country, reaffirmed its commitment to promoting unity, peace and sustainable development while strengthening the institutional framework of the youth body.

Participants reviewed the association’s administrative structure, examined the role of its National Stakeholders Forum, and deliberated on preparations for constitutional reforms and the conduct of national elections.

A major resolution of the congress was the dissolution of the outgoing National Executive Council and the affirmation of Comrade Chiazor Francis Ogbogu as Chairman of the five-member Caretaker Committee.

The committee was mandated to administer the affairs of the association until a new executive is elected.

The congress also nullified all activities carried out by the dissolved executive between January 2026 and July 2, 2026.

To facilitate a smooth transition, the association constituted a five-member National Electoral Committee headed by John Osume.

Other members are Comrade Otiono Ifeanyi (Ogwashi-Uku Headquarters), Comrade Nelly Ejor (Abuja Branch), Comrade Ifeanyi Ifedinkor (Port Harcourt Branch) and Comrade Ezediunor Emeka (Lagos Branch).

The electoral committee was directed to produce election guidelines and conduct national elections on September 26, 2026.

The congress also deferred consideration of the constitutional amendment review report until after the inauguration of a new National Executive Council.

In another resolution, members identified as belonging to factional groups within the association were suspended, with the Caretaker Committee empowered to determine conditions for their possible reintegration upon formal application.

The congress further approved the nomination of Comrade Michael Aguocha to act on behalf of the Caretaker Committee Chairman whenever necessary and directed the removal of members from the Ogwashi-Uku Youths National platform who were not duly recognised by the congress.

A symbolic highlight of the event was the formal handover of the association’s Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registration certificates by Comrade Chiazor Francis Ogbogu to the association’s Patron, Chiedu Odiakaose.

The congress concluded by reaffirming its commitment to preserving the unity, stability and continuous existence of the Ogwashi-Uku Youth Development Association as the recognised umbrella body representing the youths of Ogwashi-Uku.
