The remarkable progress recorded by a physically challenged beneficiary of the Fostering Hopes Foundation (FHF) has inspired the Foundation’s team during a visit to her family in Oleh, Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State.
The beneficiary, Mrs. Rachel Chidinma Okoli, received a ₦250,000 Family Support Business Grant from the Foundation to establish a small-scale poultry business as part of efforts to help her regain economic independence.
Okoli, a mother of two children, a boy and a girl, was left with spinal cord complications following an accident that severely affected her mobility and confined her largely to her home.
Her circumstances came to the attention of FHF, prompting the Foundation’s Executive Director, Nkechi Ukome, to intervene through the business grant. In addition to the financial support, the Foundation also awarded a scholarship to assist Okoli’s son with his secondary education.
During the visit, the FHF team expressed satisfaction with the way Okoli had utilised the grant and the progress recorded in the business.
The development was particularly encouraging to the team, which had maintained support for the family for more than a year but had not previously had the opportunity to meet the beneficiary and her family in person.
The visit provided an emotional moment for the Okoli family, who finally met members of the Foundation behind the intervention that had positively impacted their lives.
For the FHF team, the encounter offered an opportunity to witness firsthand the outcome of its intervention and the determination of the beneficiary to rebuild her livelihood despite the physical and economic challenges confronting her.
The Foundation said the experience further reinforced the importance of its family support initiatives in empowering vulnerable individuals and helping families move towards self-reliance.
