Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has disclosed the salary figures for some top public office holders in the state, including Permanent Secretaries, the Head of Service and the governor himself.
Oborevwori made the disclosure on Thursday August 20, 2026, in Asaba while speaking at the commissioning of 12 newly completed four-bedroom duplexes and the presentation of 12 brand-new official vehicles to Permanent Secretaries in the Delta State Civil Service.
The governor, while highlighting his administration’s commitment to the welfare of civil servants, said a Permanent Secretary in the state receives about N900,000, while the Head of Service earns about N1 million monthly.
He also disclosed that his own monthly salary from the state government is about N503,000.
The governor said the disclosure followed concerns over the remuneration of senior civil servants, particularly Permanent Secretaries, noting that the administration had reviewed their pay to reflect their responsibilities and improve their welfare.
Oborevwori said the welfare of civil servants remained a priority of his administration, stressing that better working conditions were necessary to improve productivity and service delivery.
He also announced that the state would commence payment of a 13th-month salary to civil servants from December 2026, adding that his administration was already working to give the policy legal backing.
According to him, an executive bill would soon be transmitted to the Delta State House of Assembly to institutionalize the payment and ensure that it remains in force beyond the tenure of his administration.
The governor said the initiative was part of a broader package of measures introduced to motivate workers and strengthen the state public service.
He recalled that his administration had also implemented the national minimum wage in full after consultations with relevant stakeholders, including labour representatives.
On the welfare of senior civil servants, Oborevwori said the 12 newly completed four-bedroom duplexes being commissioned would provide befitting official accommodation for Permanent Secretaries, while the 12 brand-new vehicles would enhance their mobility and operational efficiency.
He disclosed that 302 civil servants had benefited from the Public Officers’ Vehicle Loan Scheme, while 119 had benefited from the Public Officers’ Housing Loan Scheme.
The governor also said farming inputs had been provided to civil servants willing to venture into agriculture, describing the initiative as an opportunity to create additional income while contributing to food security.
On professional development, Oborevwori disclosed that 450 senior management officers had benefited from a comprehensive seven-weekend training programme organised in collaboration with the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON).
He said his administration would continue to promote merit, competence and professionalism in the public service.
The governor further noted that the appointment and swearing-in of 12 Permanent Secretaries in May 2026 had ensured that every local government area in Delta State now had a Permanent Secretary.
He urged civil servants and political appointees to reciprocate the administration’s welfare interventions with dedication, loyalty and improved service delivery.
Oborevwori cautioned against nepotism, waste, inefficiency, bribery and corruption, saying his administration was determined to leave behind a civil service driven by merit, competence, transparency, accountability and integrity.
Earlier, the Head of Service, Delta State, Dr. Mininim Oseji, commended the governor for prioritising the welfare and professional development of civil servants.
Oseji said the construction of the 12 duplexes followed a process that began in September 2024, when a committee was established to examine options for providing additional accommodation for Permanent Secretaries.
She said the committee submitted its report in March 2025, after which Governor Oborevwori directed the Ministry of Housing to commence the process for the first phase of the project.
The State Executive Council approved the project in June 2025, leading to the completion and commissioning of the 12 duplexes in August 2026.
Oseji also commended the governor for providing official vehicles to the newly appointed Permanent Secretaries, describing the gesture as a significant improvement in the welfare and working conditions of senior civil servants.
Meanwhile, the State Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Godknows Angele, expressed appreciation to Governor Oborevwori for his support towards the successful completion of the project.
Angele also commended Presnor Global Enterprises, the contractor handling the project, describing the firm as competent and capable of delivering quality projects within the required timeframe.
He said the quality and speed of execution demonstrated the contractor’s capacity and commitment to delivering on the administration’s vision for improved accommodation and infrastructure for senior public servants.
The governor thereafter commissioned the 12 four-bedroom duplexes and accompanying road infrastructure, while the 12 official vehicles were handed over for distribution to the Permanent Secretaries.
