The Delta State Police Command has established a specialised Violent Complaint Response Unit (VCRU) as part of a comprehensive reorganisation aimed at strengthening operational efficiency, discipline, and accountability.
The initiative follows directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and is being implemented under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi.
According to the Command, the VCRU will focus on handling high-risk and violent complaints, including threats to life, grievous assault, and domestic violence, serving as a rapid response and coordination hub working closely with Divisions and Tactical Units for prompt intervention.
As part of its rollout, selected officers underwent a three-day intensive retraining programme, during which the Commissioner of Police charged personnel to uphold professionalism, discipline, and respect for human rights.
The training featured sessions on legal frameworks, use of force, and compliance with extant laws, alongside practical retraining in arms handling and operational safety.
The CP emphasised that the reforms are geared toward restoring public confidence and ensuring swift, lawful responses to violent incidents, warning that misconduct or human rights violations will not be tolerated.
He has directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Unit heads to support the new unit, while assuring residents of the Command’s continued commitment to protecting lives and property and encouraging timely reporting of violent incidents through official channels.
