Police Arrest Suspect Over Murder Of Final-Year Law Student

The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 31-year-old suspect, identified as Adedamola Michael Oyewole, over the alleged murder of his girlfriend, Habibatu Aruwa, a 21-year-old final-year Law student of the University of Port Harcourt, in Warri.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, disclosed the development on Monday June 29, 2026, during the Command’s second quarter press briefing held at the State Headquarters in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

The Police Boss, highlighted major operational achievements recorded between April 29 and June 29, 2026.

According to the Police Commissioner, the incident occurred on June 24, 2026, at about 7:40am., when the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of ‘B’ Division, Warri, received a distress call from a landlord reporting that one of his tenants had allegedly murdered his girlfriend in a self-contained apartment.

CP Oyeniyi said detectives immediately responded to the scene, where they found the victim lying in a pool of blood.

She was rushed to a hospital but was confirmed dead on arrival by medical personnel.

The police boss identified the deceased as Habibatu Aruwa, aged 21, and a final-year undergraduate of the Faculty of Law, University of Port Harcourt.

He disclosed that the suspect, Adedamola Michael Oyewole, was promptly arrested and is currently in police custody.

According to the Commissioner, preliminary investigation revealed that the fatal incident followed a disagreement after the deceased allegedly discovered that the suspect was married to a woman residing in the United States of America.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed that the argument escalated into a violent confrontation during which he stabbed the deceased on the neck, stomach and thighs,” CP Oyeniyi stated.

The Commissioner added that the investigation is ongoing and assured that the suspect would be prosecuted in accordance with the law upon the conclusion of investigations.

He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring justice for victims of violent crimes and urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to the Police, stressing that security remains a collective responsibility
