The Delta State Police Command has recorded significant operational breakthroughs in its ongoing efforts to combat violent crime and illicit drug activities across the state. The operations led to the rescue of a kidnapped victim, the arrest of suspected armed robbers, and the recovery of a locally fabricated firearm as well as hard drugs in separate coordinated actions.
Rescue of Kidnap Victim Without Ransom Payment
Operatives of the Command’s Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Squad (SAKU) successfully rescued a kidnapped male victim unhurt without the payment of ransom following a sustained intelligence-led operation.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the incident was reported to the Command on June 11, 2026, following the abduction of the victim at Okpanam by armed men on June 10, 2026.
He explained that acting on credible intelligence, operatives immediately launched a coordinated search and intensified pressure on the abductors through strategic operational deployment.
“Under sustained operational pressure and intelligence tracking, the suspects abandoned the victim and fled their hideout. The victim was rescued unhurt, debriefed, and reunited with his family,” Edafe stated.
He added that efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend the fleeing suspects, while investigation into the circumstances of the abduction continues.
Arrest of Three Suspected Armed Robbers, Recovery of Firearm
In a separate operation on June 12, 2026, at about 12:30hrs, operatives of the Distress 01 Patrol Team attached to the Department of Operations intercepted a tricycle carrying three occupants during routine patrol in Asaba.
A search of the suspects led to the recovery of one locally fabricated Beretta pistol. The suspects were immediately arrested and identified as Ewendeze De-Grace (19), Eruweghene Amede (20), and Chukwuemeka Arinze (21).
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects are alleged members of the Aro Bagger Confraternity.
The Police PRO confirmed that the suspects and the recovered firearm are currently in custody as investigations continue to determine the extent of their involvement in criminal activities.
Drug Raid Leads to Arrest and Recovery of Illicit Substances
In another intelligence-driven operation aimed at curbing drug-related offences, operatives of the Kwale Division raided a suspected drug distribution hideout in Kwale on June 10, 2026.
On arrival of the operatives, two male suspects fled the scene, while a female suspect, identified as Ananyi Vivian, aged 45, was arrested.
A search of the premises revealed it was being used as a hub for illicit drug activities. During interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted awareness of the illegal operations at the location.
The Command stated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and dismantle the wider network connected to the drug distribution point.
Police Reaffirm Commitment to Crime Fighting
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, psc, acipm, mnips, commended the operatives for their professionalism, swift response, and intelligence-driven approach to policing.
He reiterated the Command’s commitment to sustaining aggressive operations against kidnapping, armed robbery, and drug-related crimes across the state.
