The Delta State Police Command has intensified its offensive against criminal activities with the arrest of 202 suspects during a coordinated intelligence-led raid on criminal hideouts, brothels and suspected illicit drug dens across the Asaba metropolis.
The operation, carried out on Saturday, July 4, 2026, was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Department of Operations, following actionable intelligence generated by the State Intelligence Department (SID).
According to the Command, the exercise targeted identified black spots and locations suspected to be harbouring criminal elements, as part of ongoing efforts to rid the state capital of crime and strengthen public safety.
Police said the operation led to the arrest of 102 male and 100 female suspects for alleged offences ranging from operating illegal brothels to possession and sale of suspected illicit drugs, as well as other related criminal activities.
In addition to the arrests, operatives impounded 25 vehicles, comprising five motor vehicles, 10 tricycles and 10 motorcycles, for violating traffic regulations, the state government’s restrictions on tricycle operations and the ban on motorcycle movements in designated areas.
Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, said the latest operation underscores the Command’s resolve to sustain intelligence-driven policing and ensure that criminal elements have no safe haven within the state.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to maintaining law and order through proactive enforcement operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and addressing emerging security threats.
The police commissioner also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and continue partnering with security agencies by providing credible and timely information that would aid crime prevention and prompt law enforcement intervention.
The Delta State Police Command noted that similar operations will continue across the state as part of broader efforts to strengthen public safety, enforce existing laws and maintain a secure environment for residents and businesses.
The statement was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, on behalf of the Delta State Police Command.
