The Delta State Police Command has recorded another breakthrough in its ongoing campaign against crime with the arrest of four suspected kidnappers and armed robbers, as well as the recovery of a locally fabricated firearm in separate operations across the state.
The arrests, carried out by operatives of the Command under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, underscore the Command’s sustained efforts to rid Delta State of criminal elements and enhance public safety.
In one of the operations, two suspected armed robbers were arrested following an attempted robbery incident reported to the police on June 23, 2026.
Investigations revealed that one of the suspects allegedly gained unlawful access into a residential compound but fled after discovering that occupants were present in the premises. Prompt action by vigilant residents led to the arrest of the suspect and an accomplice, who were subsequently handed over to security operatives.
Acting on intelligence gathered during preliminary investigations, operatives attached to the Ugborikoko Division conducted a search of the suspects’ residence, leading to the recovery of a locally made pistol concealed inside a wardrobe.
The suspects are currently in police custody while further investigations continue to ascertain their possible involvement in other criminal activities within and outside the area.
In a separate operation, operatives of the ‘A’ Division, Ughelli, working in collaboration with members of a local vigilante group, arrested two suspected kidnappers linked to a failed abduction attempt that occurred on June 19, 2026.
The suspects, identified as Iliyasu Hassan, 16, and Idris Abdulkarim, 32, were apprehended on June 22 after reportedly emerging from a nearby forest to purchase food and medication.
Police investigations indicate that following their arrest, a victim of an earlier kidnapping incident positively identified the duo as members of the gang responsible for his abduction.
The suspects remain in custody as detectives intensify efforts to track down and apprehend other members of the criminal syndicate and recover weapons allegedly used in their operations.
Commenting on the development, Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended residents for their vigilance and continued support to security agencies through the provision of credible intelligence.
He also praised the synergy between community stakeholders, vigilante groups and the police, describing such collaboration as critical to the fight against crime.
The Police Commissioner urged members of the public to remain security conscious and continue sharing timely information with law enforcement agencies, assuring residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
Confirming the arrests, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, said the Command remains resolute in its determination to combat criminality and ensure that offenders are brought to justice.
