The Delta State Police Command has recorded another breakthrough in its sustained campaign against the vandalism of critical national infrastructure with the arrest of two suspected electric cable vandals and the recovery of vandalised electric cables in Delta State.

The suspects, identified as Osakwe Sunday, 28, and Ekene Obocha, 34, were arrested on June 25, 2026, following a coordinated operation by operatives of the Kwale Police Division and members of a local vigilante group.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the operation was launched after the Command received credible intelligence that suspected vandals were dismantling and stealing electric cables along the Ibabu–Ugiliamai Road.

Edafe disclosed that the combined security team swiftly mobilised to the scene at about 10:30 a.m., where the suspects attempted to flee upon sighting the operatives.

“During the operation, one of the suspects sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment, while the other suspect remains in police custody.

“Vandalised electric cables were recovered from the suspects as exhibits,” the police spokesman stated.

Commending the prompt response of the operatives and the vigilance of members of the local security outfit, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting government assets and critical infrastructure across the state.

The Police Commissioner warned criminal elements to desist from vandalising public utilities and other government facilities, stressing that the Command would continue to identify, arrest and prosecute those involved in such criminal activities.

“The Command will not relent in its efforts to safeguard critical national infrastructure. We remain committed to bringing perpetrators of these crimes to justice,” CP Oyeniyi said.

He also appealed to residents of the state to continue partnering with the police by providing timely and credible information that would assist security agencies in preventing crime and apprehending offenders.

The statement was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, on behalf of the Delta State Police Command, Asaba.
