Former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Victor Ochei, has formally resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), in what political observers describe as another major blow to the party’s stability in Delta State.
Ochei’s resignation was conveyed in a letter dated May 8, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of APC Ward 4, Onicha-Olona, in Aniocha North Local Government Area of the state.
The development comes amid mounting political tension and growing defections within the Delta APC following the recent resignation of former Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, and several key loyalists from the party.
In the resignation letter personally signed by him, Ochei stated that his decision followed “careful reflection and personal consideration,” adding that his resignation takes immediate effect.
“I write to formally resign my membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), effective immediately,” the letter read in part.
While the former Speaker did not publicly disclose his next political destination, his exit is expected to further weaken the APC’s political structure in Delta State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ochei expressed appreciation to party leaders and members for the support, cooperation, and goodwill extended to him during his time in the APC.
“This decision was reached after careful reflection and personal consideration. I remain grateful for the opportunity given to me to serve and associate with the party over the years,” he stated.
The former lawmaker also requested that the letter be treated as his official notice of resignation from the party.
Political analysts say Ochei’s resignation signals widening cracks within the Delta APC, especially following complaints by several party stakeholders over alleged marginalization, internal power struggles, and dissatisfaction with the conduct of recent party primaries.
His departure is likely to trigger fresh political realignments across Delta North and other parts of the state, where he remains a significant political figure with longstanding grassroots influence.
As of the time of filing this report, the Delta State chapter of the APC had yet to officially react to Ochei’s resignation.
