As political alignments intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, supporters of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu have inaugurated a new political movement in Kaduna to drum up support for his second-term bid.
The group, known as the Shehi and Matawalle Project for Tinubu 2027 Mandate, was formally launched on Saturday with the goal of consolidating grassroots support for the continuity of Tinubu’s leadership.
In his welcome address, Secretary General of the movement, Dr. Ahmad Hashim, described the event as the beginning of a renewed journey of loyalty, consolidation, and strategic mobilization.
“This project is more than a campaign structure. It is a movement anchored on continuity—designed to consolidate the achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Nigeria moves towards 2027,” Dr. Hashim stated.
He emphasized that the initiative draws its strength from the enduring political influence of two prominent figures from the Northwest Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, and Senator Abdulazeez Yari Abubakar, whom he described as pillars of democratic stability and grassroots mobilization.
Speaking to journalists at the event, the group’s Publicity Secretary, Auwal Mohammed, dismissed the emerging alliance between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and others as “an exercise in futility.”
“It is a waste of time and political capital. Nigerians are already witnessing the impact of Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda and are not ready to be swayed by recycled narratives,” he stated.
Highlighting reasons why President Tinubu deserves continued support, Mohammed noted that the administration’s people-centered policies have begun to set the Nigerian economy on the path to recovery.
Earlier in his remarks, the Zonal Coordinator of the movement, Hon. Babangida Haruna Damba, cited key reforms initiated by the Tinubu administration, including the removal of fuel subsidy, unification of foreign exchange rates, road rehabilitation, and rural electrification projects.
“These bold reforms are laying the foundation for long-term economic growth and stability,” Damba said.
“As newly inaugurated executives, your mission is clear, mobilize, educate, and sustain this movement to ensure the re-election of President Tinubu in 2027.”
On the sidelines of the event, Mohammed Auwal, Special Assistant on Housekeeping to the Governor of Katsina State, urged Nigerians to remain patient and supportive of the current administration.
He noted that economic challenges are not unique to Nigeria but part of a global trend, stressing the importance of resilience and collective optimism.
“We must continue to pray for the nation and support President Tinubu’s administration. The insecurity challenges are real, but they are surmountable. What is needed is unity, faith, and sustained policy implementation,” he concluded.
The inauguration event attracted political stakeholders, youth leaders, civil society members, and supporters from across the Northwest zone, marking what organizers say is the beginning of a robust nationwide campaign for Tinubu’s return in 2027.
