BREAKING NEWS: Assembly Summons Commissioner For Education, Accountant-General, Others

16

The Rivers State House of Assembly has summoned the Commissioner for Education, Permanent Secretary of the ministry, State Accountant-General and officials of PAMO University of Medical Sciences over issues surrounding funding of the institution.

The officials are expected to appear before an Ad-hoc Committee of the Assembly on September 16, 2026.

The summons was issued under Sections 128 and 129 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which empower the legislature to conduct investigations into matters within its oversight functions.

Speaker of the Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, warned those invited to appear before the committee against ignoring the summons.

The development comes weeks after the Assembly rejected a proposed N6 billion allocation to PAMO University in the state’s 2026 budget.

According to Amaewhule, the Assembly is seeking to determine how funds allocated to the university over the years were utilised and whether they were applied for the purposes for which they were released.

The inquiry is expected to shed more light on the funding and financial management of the institution.
