As the world prepares to commemorate International Mother Earth Day, the Kaduna State Climate Change Accountability Mechanism has called for urgent and sustained efforts to address escalating environmental threats and safeguard the planet.
In a statement issued by its Co-Chair, Ibrahima Yakubu, the body aligned with global stakeholders in reaffirming the need for collective responsibility in tackling climate change and environmental degradation.
KADCCAM highlighted a range of pressing challenges, including deforestation, pollution, water scarcity, and biodiversity loss, warning that these issues continue to undermine livelihoods, public health, and long-term sustainable development.
To reverse the trend, the group advocated a suite of practical interventions such as large-scale afforestation and reforestation initiatives, improved waste management systems to address plastic pollution, expanded adoption of renewable energy, and stricter enforcement of environmental protection laws.
The organisation also emphasised the importance of climate education and heightened public awareness as critical tools for promoting environmentally responsible behaviour across all sectors of society.
In addition, KADCCAM stressed the need for increased investment in climate-resilient agriculture, efficient water resource management, and sustainable urban planning to enhance resilience against climate-related risks.
It further underscored the importance of strong collaboration among government agencies, private sector actors, civil society organisations, and local communities as a cornerstone for achieving meaningful and lasting impact.
As activities marking International Mother Earth Day approach, the group urged stakeholders at all levels to move beyond rhetoric and embrace proactive measures aimed at securing a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable future for Kaduna State and beyond.
