The Delta State House of Assembly has constituted a seven-member ad-hoc committee to investigate the lingering crisis at the Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, in Aniocha South Local Government Area.
The resolution followed a motion of urgent public importance moved at Wednesday’s plenary by the Member representing Aniocha South Constituency, Hon. Isaac Anwuzia, amid reports of a worsening rift between the Governing Council and the Management of the institution.
Moving the motion, Hon. Anwuzia expressed deep concern over what he described as an “unhealthy working relationship” between the two bodies, warning that the situation was already undermining the administration and public image of the polytechnic.
The lawmaker, who also chairs the House Committee on Peace and Security, noted that the dispute, rooted in administrative and financial disagreements, had escalated into a full-blown institutional crisis that now threatens the progress recorded by the institution in recent years.
He stressed that his motion sought to restore peace, ensure transparency, and safeguard the integrity of the state’s tertiary education system.
Quoting from his motion, Anwuzia said:
“Mr. Speaker, the crisis between the Governing Council and the Management of the Polytechnic is beginning to take a toll on its smooth administration. I therefore move that this Honourable House investigates the general affairs of the Polytechnic from 2023 till date, to address the conflict and restore order.”
Responding, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, commended the mover for drawing attention to the matter and swiftly constituted a seven-member ad-hoc committee to probe the issues.
The committee, chaired by the Leader of the House, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi, was directed to conduct a comprehensive investigation and report back to the House on or before October 28, 2025.
