There is growing panic across parts of Adamawa and Borno states following the emergence of a leaked Department of State Services (DSS) intelligence memo warning of an imminent Boko Haram attack and coordinated kidnapping operation targeting key communities in the two North-East states.
The classified intelligence communication, dated July 27, 2026, was addressed to the Commander of the 23 Armoured Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Yola, Adamawa State.
The memo, referenced 0.211/3827, was signed on behalf of the Adamawa State Director of Security by Ben Osifor.
According to the leaked document, the DSS received credible intelligence indicating that Boko Haram terrorists are planning coordinated attacks in Michika Local Government Area of Adamawa State and Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, following the reported collapse of a ceasefire arrangement with the governments of the two states.
The intelligence report warned that the insurgents intend to abduct senior government officials, councillors, traditional rulers, religious leaders and residents during the planned attacks.
It specifically identified the District Head of Michika and his son as prime targets for abduction.
The memo further disclosed that the terrorists have already deployed surveillance teams to monitor their intended targets as part of preparations for the planned operations.
In response to the threat, the DSS advised the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to intensify surveillance and strengthen security across the affected communities to prevent the attacks from being carried out.
The agency also recommended closer collaboration between military personnel, forest guards, hunters and other local security volunteers to enhance intelligence gathering and reinforce security in the threatened areas.
The memo stated: “In view therefore, it is advised that troops, in collaboration with forest guards and hunters, beef up security measures around the affected LGAs with a view to preventing the planned operations by the terrorists.”
The intelligence alert has since been forwarded to the Nigerian Army for immediate operational action amid renewed concerns over escalating Boko Haram activities in parts of Nigeria’s North-East.
