The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Zamfara State Chapter, has strongly condemned the abduction of a lecturer at the Federal University Gusau, Dr. Namadina Hamza, describing the incident as another disturbing indication of the worsening security crisis in Zamfara State.
Dr. Hamza was reportedly kidnapped by armed assailants from his residence in the Low-Cost area of Kaura Namoda, Zamfara State.
The condemnation was contained in a statement issued by the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Kasim Almustapha Kayatawa.
The party said the latest abduction underscores the growing insecurity across the state, where bandits and other criminal groups continue to terrorise communities through killings, kidnappings and other violent attacks.
According to the NDC, the persistent wave of insecurity has left many residents living in fear despite the government’s constitutional responsibility to protect lives and property.
The party stressed that security remains a fundamental right of every Nigerian, urging authorities to take more decisive and coordinated measures to halt the rising attacks across the state.
Speaking on the development, the Chairman of the NDC in Zamfara State, Alhaji Surajo Garba Maikatako, lamented that residents have endured years of hardship as a result of the deteriorating security situation.
He said citizens can no longer feel safe in their homes, educational institutions, workplaces, markets or while travelling on major highways, adding that it is time for government to translate its constitutional obligations into visible and effective action.
The NDC called on the Federal Government, security agencies and other relevant stakeholders to intensify efforts towards the immediate rescue of Dr. Hamza and all other persons currently in captivity.
It also urged security agencies to strengthen intelligence gathering, enhance ongoing operations against criminal groups and ensure that those behind the attacks are arrested and prosecuted.
The party expressed solidarity with the family of the abducted lecturer, the management, staff and students of the Federal University Gusau, assuring them of its support during the difficult period.
It further prayed for the safe release of Dr. Hamza and all other kidnapped victims, while calling for lasting peace, security and stability in Zamfara State and across Nigeria.
