Fresh cracks have emerged within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a faction of the party in Adamawa State moves decisively to suspend former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, intensifying the party’s internal leadership crisis.
The suspension was announced on Monday April 14, 2026 by the factional state chairman, Raji Sulaiman Zumo, who also confirmed that former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has been similarly affected.
The development is linked to the lingering leadership dispute within the ADC, as a rival group led by Nafiu Bala Gombe continues to assert control over the party’s national structure.
Amid the crisis, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had earlier taken steps to derecognize a faction aligned with former Senate President, David Mark, further complicating the party’s internal dynamics.
The latest action highlights escalating tensions within the ADC, raising concerns over unity and stability as political realignments gather momentum ahead of future elections.
