Nigeria has emerged victorious at the World Debate Championship held in Qatar, with the national team proudly represented by students from Delta State.
In a fiercely contested final, teams from the State of Chicago (USA), Qatar, and Nigeria advanced to the final stage.
The Nigerian team, fresh off their national triumph at the President’s School Debate Nigeria, earned the honour of representing the country at the global stage.
Nigeria defeated host country Qatar 2–1 in the opening round and went on to secure a clean sweep against Chicago with a 3–0 victory in the final round, finishing with an overall score of 5–1 to clinch the championship title.
The team was led to Qatar by the Chairman of the Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), who accompanied the students as they showcased exceptional intellectual prowess on behalf of the nation.
Prior to their departure, Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, hosted the team at Government House, Asaba. He offered prayers and words of encouragement, urging them to bring home the trophy — a charge they proudly fulfilled.
