Former Delta State Governor and Senator, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has appointed two seasoned journalists, Mr. Olisa Ifeajika and Dr. Norbert Chiazor, to head the media and communications directorate of his campaign organisation ahead of the 2027 Delta North Senatorial election.

The appointments, announced in a statement signed by the Director-General of the Senator Ifeanyi Okowa Campaign Organisation, Hon. Pascal Adigwe, and obtained by journalists in Asaba on Friday, are aimed at strengthening the campaign’s communication structure and public engagement.

Under the new arrangement, Ifeajika, a former Chief Press Secretary to Okowa, will serve as Director of Media and Communications, while Chiazor has been named Assistant Director of Media and Communications of the Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa Senatorial Campaign Council.

Both appointees are familiar with Okowa’s political and administrative engagements, having played significant roles in the media management of his administration during his eight-year tenure as governor of Delta State.

Ifeajika, a former Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), served as Chief Press Secretary to Okowa between 2019 and 2023. A member of the Nigeria Guild of Editors, he brings more than three decades of experience in journalism, editorial leadership and strategic media management to the assignment.

Similarly, Chiazor, a former Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, served as Executive Assistant on Media during the Okowa administration.

The communication expert holds a PhD in Mass Communication and has over 30 years of professional experience spanning broadcast, print and online journalism.

The statement said the two journalists would be responsible for coordinating the campaign council’s media operations, including strategic communications, media relations, advocacy, public engagement and reputational management.

Their appointments are expected to provide the campaign with experienced hands capable of shaping its public messaging, strengthening media engagement and effectively communicating Okowa’s political agenda ahead of the 2027 polls.

The development is also seen as a strategic effort to consolidate the campaign’s communication framework by drawing on the experience of individuals who were directly involved in projecting the former governor’s administration.
