Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has approved a two-day professional development workshop for community newspaper publishers across the state, scheduled to hold on November 17 and 18, 2026, in Asaba.
The workshop, according to a press statement issued on Friday by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Community Newspapers, Comrade Prince Orhomonokpaye, will take place at Hotel Benizia, Asaba, commencing at 8:30 a.m. daily.
With the theme, “Adequate Reporting of the Achievements of the New MORE Agenda,” the programme is designed to strengthen the professional capacity of community newspaper publishers in reporting government policies, programmes, projects and developmental initiatives under the Oborevwori administration.
The initiative is also expected to promote responsible journalism by equipping participants with the requisite skills to produce accurate, balanced, factual and comprehensive reports on government activities, particularly those relating to grassroots development.
Professor Emmanuel Ufuoohu-Biri, Rector of Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara, has been named as the lead speaker. He will be joined by other distinguished speakers and resource persons expected to provide participants with valuable insights and practical knowledge on effective community journalism.
The workshop is expected to provide a platform for professional engagement, knowledge sharing and capacity building among community newspaper publishers, while reinforcing the role of the local media in promoting accountability, public awareness and development reporting.
It is also anticipated that the training will contribute to improving the standard of community newspaper journalism and strengthen coverage of governance and development issues across Delta State.
