The Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA), in collaboration with the State Task Force on Environment, has stepped up enforcement operations across Asaba, targeting illegal structures and traders encroaching on road setbacks.
The ongoing exercise, which began on May 4, covered key locations including McDon Road, High Court Road (Event Centre axis), GRA Estate, the Cenotaph area, and DBS Road. During the operation, traders operating unlawfully were removed, while unauthorised and makeshift structures were dismantled.
As part of the initiative, the agency’s Corporate Affairs Unit, led by Ms. Ngozi Peter, carried out public sensitization, engaging residents, landlords, business owners, and commercial transport operators on the need to maintain environmental standards and urban order.
Overseeing the exercise on behalf of the Director-General, Mr. Patrick Ukah, the Head of Operations, Mr. Isaac Nwosu, reaffirmed the agency’s zero-tolerance policy on environmental violations.
He cautioned that non-compliant residential and commercial premises risk being sealed, while offenders would face prosecution in line with extant laws.
“The Director-General has directed sustained enforcement until the capital territory meets acceptable environmental standards.
Violators will be apprehended and prosecuted accordingly,” Nwosu stated.
The agency added that the operation will be sustained in the coming days as part of broader efforts to promote a cleaner, safer, and more orderly capital city.
Residents and business operators have been urged to adhere strictly to environmental regulations to avoid sanctions.
