Delta State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to transforming the state into one of Nigeria’s leading investment destinations by capitalising on its expanding infrastructure, maritime resources, stable power supply and the Delta Special Economic Zone.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Emu, disclosed this on Wednesday during a press briefing ahead of the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit 2026, scheduled to hold in Asaba from August 3 to 5.
Emu said the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori had deliberately invested in critical infrastructure over the past three years to create an enabling environment capable of attracting both local and foreign investors.
According to him, more than 2,600 kilometres of roads have been constructed or rehabilitated across the state, alongside the completion of over 20 bridges, significantly improving connectivity, opening rural communities to economic activities and reducing the cost of transportation.
The SSG described the Delta Special Economic Zone as one of the state’s strongest investment assets, noting that its proximity to the OB-3 gas pipeline guarantees industries access to affordable and dependable electricity.
He explained that the government had already provided the essential infrastructure required for businesses to thrive, adding that investors stand to benefit from lower energy costs compared to many parts of the country.
Emu further revealed that Delta currently operates an independent electricity network supplying about 8.5 megawatts of power to government establishments, while ongoing reforms in the electricity sector are expected to increase power availability for industrial users.
Highlighting the state’s geographical advantages, he said Delta is strategically positioned with four seaports, two airports and a 163-kilometre Atlantic coastline, making it a natural gateway for commerce, trade and industrial development.
He said the government is also placing significant emphasis on the blue economy, with plans to stimulate investments in aquaculture, commercial fishing, seafood processing, fish feed production, marine transportation and cold-chain logistics.
According to Emu, the Ekpan-Ugborikoko axis hosts one of the largest concentrations of fish ponds in West Africa, where aquaculture has become a major source of employment and economic growth for thousands of residents.
Beyond marine resources, he noted that Delta possesses abundant deposits of valuable solid minerals, including coal, lignite, kaolin and silica, creating opportunities for mining, manufacturing and energy production.
He added that coal extracted from parts of the state is already being supplied to major cement manufacturers, while discussions are ongoing to harness the resource for coal-powered electricity generation to support industrial expansion.
The SSG disclosed that the state government had intensified international investment drives over the past three years, engaging prospective investors in China, Brazil and other strategic markets to showcase Delta’s economic potential.
He said investment missions to São Paulo had produced encouraging outcomes, with several Brazilian firms expected to attend the forthcoming summit, while Chinese investors had equally expressed strong interest in exploring opportunities in the state.
Emu also revealed that the government had produced detailed investment guides and launched a dedicated digital platform to provide prospective investors with easy access to information before, during and after the summit.
Expressing optimism about the outcome of the event, the SSG said the summit would serve as a catalyst for industrial growth, increased exports, job creation and long-term economic prosperity.
He maintained that with its abundant natural resources, modern infrastructure, strategic location and investor-friendly policies, Delta is well positioned to become a preferred destination for sustainable investment and economic development.
