The Delta State Police Command has sustained activities marking the 2026 International Youth Day with a walkathon held in Asaba on Friday, August 21, as part of efforts to promote responsible youth participation and strengthen the fight against political and digital thuggery.
The exercise, organised under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, psc, acipm, mnips, formed part of the Nigeria Police Force International Youth Day 2026 programme initiated by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc (+), NPM.
Held under the theme, “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” the walkathon also advanced the national campaign, “My Future Is Greater Than Political and Digital Thuggery.”
Police personnel, wives of police officers, youths, children and other participants took part in the exercise, which was aimed at fostering peaceful youth participation, responsible citizenship and collective action against forms of violence and abuse capable of undermining the future of young Nigerians.
The Command said the initiative was designed to deepen engagement between the police and young people while encouraging youths to reject political manipulation, digital thuggery and other forms of criminal exploitation.
The walkathon also provided an opportunity for participants to demonstrate unity and shared commitment to building a peaceful and secure society where young people can pursue their aspirations without being drawn into violence or criminal activities.
The International Youth Day programme will continue on Saturday, August 22, with a moderated Police Youth Dialogue at the Police Officers’ Mess, Police Headquarters, Okpanam Road, Asaba.
The dialogue is expected to provide a platform for meaningful interaction between police officers and youths on security, responsible citizenship, leadership and other issues affecting young people.
