The Delta State Police Command has recorded fresh operational breakthroughs in its ongoing efforts to curb crime across the state, with the arrest of 15 suspected cultists and armed robbery suspects, alongside the recovery of weapons, illicit drugs, and cash.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the arrests followed coordinated intelligence-led operations carried out on April 27, 2026.
In one of the operations, security operatives under Safe Delta, Operation Delta Sweep, and Operation Delta Shield raided a suspected criminal hideout at a location identified as Best Lodge in Oko Community.
The raid, conducted on the directive of the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, led to the arrest of 14 suspects, comprising 13 males and one female.
Items recovered during the operation include a locally made cut-to-size pistol, three live cartridges, substances suspected to be Indian hemp, daggers, a cutlass, mobile phones, and a cash sum believed to be proceeds of criminal activities.
In a related operation on the same day, operatives of Operation Delta Shield, while on routine stop-and-search duty along Kingsley Street, apprehended a 26-year-old suspect identified as Chidebere Irunkwor.
A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of another locally made pistol, two live cartridges, and a sum of foreign currency.
Preliminary investigations indicate alleged links to a cult group, while the suspect remains in custody as further investigations continue.
The Commissioner of Police reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustained proactive policing and intelligence-driven operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks across the state.
He also urged members of the public to support law enforcement agencies with timely and credible information, assuring that all information provided would be treated with utmost confidentiality.
