Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has congratulated children across the state on the occasion of the 2026 Children’s Day celebration, calling for greater commitment toward the protection, education, and overall wellbeing of children.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, the governor stressed the need for parents, guardians, caregivers, and other stakeholders to prioritise the welfare and moral upbringing of children, describing them as the future leaders of society.
Governor Oborevwori noted that children require a safe and supportive environment to develop their talents, pursue education, and realise their full potential.
He urged families and communities to remain committed to instilling sound moral values in children while protecting them from abuse, exploitation, neglect, and other social vices.
According to the governor, every child deserves access to quality education, healthcare, and opportunities capable of preparing them for responsible adulthood and leadership.
Oborevwori reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to implementing policies and programmes aimed at improving the living conditions and future prospects of children across Delta State.
He noted that the state government had domesticated the Child Rights Protection Act as part of efforts to strengthen legal protections for children and safeguard their rights and welfare.
The governor also highlighted ongoing investments in the education sector, including free education at the basic and secondary school levels, describing education as a key driver for child empowerment and sustainable development.
He further stated that the administration had sustained free healthcare services for children under the age of five, alongside affordable contributory healthcare schemes designed to expand access to medical care for families across the state.
Governor Oborevwori said his administration would continue to prioritise initiatives that support child development, education, and healthcare in line with the objectives of the MORE Agenda.
He advised children to remain focused on their education, uphold good conduct, and strive to become responsible citizens capable of contributing positively to society.
“Children are priceless gifts and the future of every society. We must continue to work together to ensure they are protected, educated, and properly guided to become responsible and productive citizens,” the governor stated.
He wished children across Delta State a joyful and memorable Children’s Day celebration.
