PRESS STATEMENT
*Professor Rukevwe Ugwumba Tenders Her Resignation from the All Progressives Congress*
Dubai
22nd May, 2026
Olorogun Prof. Dr. Mrs. Rukevwe Ugwumba has resigned her membership in the All Progressives Congress (APC), effective immediately.
In a letter to the Chairman of Uwheru Ward 9, Ughelli North LGA, Delta State, Professor Ugwumba expressed her concerns regarding the unfairness in distributing the dividends of democracy, which has denied recognition to those who labored to build the party. She highlighted the developments within the APC in Delta State, particularly the chaotic senate primaries that undermined the Urhobo people.
While on a business trip to Dubai, Prof. Rukevwe stated that after consulting with her principal, HE Senator Ovie Omo-Agege CFR KSJI, and other leaders from Delta Central as well as her political family inside and outside Delta State, it became evident that her political objectives, as well as those of the Urhobo people—whose 23 kingdoms and 8 local governments have been overlooked in favor of a select group—would be better served elsewhere, ensuring her supporters would not be disenfranchised.
“I have decided that we are better served outside the APC, considering our experiences as a people.”
She extended her sincere gratitude to her principal, the Obarisi of Urhoboland, HE Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, for his extraordinary leadership in Delta, particularly towards the Urhobo people.
Additionally, she thanked the Deputy President of the 9th Assembly Senate for his stewardship and for his wisdom in leaving a sinking ship (APC) at such a critical time, not just for Central Deltans but for all of Nigeria.
“History will mark this day as the beginning of a new dawn, and we hail Obarisi once again as the man who saw tomorrow!”
Professor Ugwumba noted that the APC never rewarded her personally for the significant resources and time she invested in the party, nor did her numerous supporters receive the recognition they deserved for their tireless efforts that led to victories as an opposition party in an oil-rich Delta State in 2023, especially with the sitting governor on the ballot as a vice-presidential candidate.
“This was the easiest decision for me to make today, having waited for my principal, to whom I remain loyal—a loyalty that is sacred to me personally.”
“He is trusted and loved by Deltans and Nigerians, and we believe in him.”
Her sentiments regarding the delays communicated a lesson for his followers and highlighted how he exhausted the patience of millions of Deltans and Nigerians while experiencing unreasonable treatment from those with hidden agendas.
“Delta Central and Delta State will regain their pride of place in 2027 and beyond!”
“Please promptly remove my name from all APC registers without hesitation. Thank you!” she concluded.
