MAIDUGURI — Borno State Governor and Chairman of the North East Governors’ Forum, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has welcomed his counterparts from across the region to Maiduguri for the 13th regular meeting of the Forum.
The two-day meeting, which commenced on Friday, October 2, 2026, is being held at the Multipurpose Hall, Government House, Maiduguri, and will end on Saturday, October 3.
Governors attending the meeting include Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, Dr Agbu Kefas of Taraba State and Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State.
Welcoming the governors and other participants, Zulum expressed appreciation to his counterparts for attending the regional meeting in Borno.
“On behalf of the Government and the good people of Borno State, I warmly welcome my brother governors of the region and our distinguished guests to Maiduguri for the 13th regular meeting of the North East Governors’ Forum,” he said.
The meeting is expected to focus on critical issues affecting the development and wellbeing of the North East, with discussions expected to cover security, good governance, peaceful coexistence and socioeconomic development.
The governors are also expected to deliberate on areas requiring stronger regional cooperation and coordinated policy responses to challenges confronting the six states.
The North East Governors’ Forum provides a platform for the governors of Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe states to collaborate on matters of common interest and pursue coordinated approaches to regional development.
The 13th meeting comes as the region continues to pursue collective strategies aimed at strengthening security, improving economic opportunities and enhancing the quality of life of its people.
