Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the state’s Hajj operations, pledging full government support to ensure a seamless and successful 2027 pilgrimage.
Governor Zulum gave the assurance on Wednesday while receiving the report of the 2026 Hajj exercise from the Executive Chairman of the Borno State Hajj Commission, Professor Yakubu Yunus, at the Government House in Maiduguri.
Commending the commission for what he described as a successful outing, the governor said the report would be thoroughly reviewed to identify areas of strength and address observed challenges ahead of the next pilgrimage.
He noted that lessons from the 2026 exercise would serve as a guide for improving future Hajj operations and enhancing service delivery to pilgrims from the state.
Zulum directed the commission to commence preparations for the 2027 Hajj without delay, stressing that early planning remains critical to the success of the exercise.
The governor also assured the commission of his administration’s continued backing, saying all necessary assistance would be provided to ensure a hitch-free pilgrimage.
He further highlighted the need for improved coordination and teamwork among members and officials of the commission, describing effective collaboration as essential to achieving better operational outcomes.
Governor Zulum also advocated improved welfare and remuneration for members and staff of the commission, expressing confidence that enhanced motivation would translate into greater efficiency and productivity.
Earlier, the Executive Chairman of the Borno State Hajj Commission, Professor Yakubu Yunus, presented the 2026 Hajj report, describing the exercise as one of the most successful in the history of the state.
He attributed the achievement to the dedication, professionalism and collective commitment of the commission’s officials throughout the pilgrimage.
Professor Yunus also appreciated Governor Zulum for his unwavering support, particularly in facilitating quality accommodation for Borno pilgrims in Makkah and providing Hadaya and Ihram for those who participated in the pilgrimage.
The presentation ceremony was attended by the Secretary to the State Government, Bukar Tijani; the Acting Chief of Staff, Dr. Babagana Mustapha Malumbe; commissioners, special advisers and other senior government officials.
