The Delta State Police Command has intensified its offensive against illicit drug trafficking with the arrest of 22 suspects and the rescue of two minors during an intelligence-led operation carried out in parts of the state.
The coordinated raid, conducted on July 21, 2026, targeted identified drug dens and criminal hideouts in Ofagbe Community, Ozoro, Ekrejeta, and the NUT Area in Abraka.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the operation was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Department of Operations following credible intelligence on the activities of suspected drug dealers operating within the affected communities.
The operation resulted in the arrest of 22 suspects, comprising 19 males and three females, over alleged offences bordering on the sale, possession and distribution of illicit drugs.
The police also rescued two minors who were discovered inside a suspected drug den allegedly operated by their father.
The Command disclosed that the children have been placed in protective custody and will be handed over to the Delta State Ministry of Women Affairs for proper care and safeguarding, while investigations into the activities of the suspects continue.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, condemned the exposure of children to environments linked to illicit drug activities, describing the situation as disturbing and unacceptable.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks and protecting vulnerable members of society through sustained intelligence-driven operations.
The police commissioner also appealed to parents, guardians and community leaders to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information that would assist security agencies in combating drug-related crimes and other criminal activities across the state.
The Delta State Police Command reiterated its resolve to sustain proactive operations aimed at ridding the state of illicit drug activities while ensuring the safety and security of residents.
