Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has approved the provision of Hadaya (sacrificial rams) for 1,725 indigent pilgrims from the state currently participating in the 2026 Hajj exercise in Saudi Arabia.
The gesture is aimed at enabling vulnerable pilgrims to fulfil one of the mandatory rites associated with Hajj al-Tamattu and Hajj al-Qiran, the two most common categories of pilgrimage observed by international pilgrims.
Hadaya, which involves the sacrificial slaughter of rams or other approved livestock during the days of Tashreeq, remains a significant aspect of the Hajj exercise, symbolising obedience, devotion, and spiritual sacrifice in line with Islamic teachings.
According to the arrangement approved by the governor, the sacrificial rites will be carried out between the 10th and 12th days of Dhul Hijjah in compliance with Islamic guidelines, while the meat will be distributed to the needy in the holy cities.
In addition to the Hadaya support, Governor Zulum also provided free Ihram garments for male pilgrims and khimars for female pilgrims as part of measures to ease the financial burden on the Borno contingent.
The administration further settled hotel differentials to secure improved accommodation for pilgrims from the state in Makkah, ensuring more conducive living conditions during their stay in Saudi Arabia.
Governor Zulum has consistently sustained support for Borno pilgrims over the years through the sponsorship of Hadaya and other welfare packages, particularly targeting indigent pilgrims to enable them complete their religious obligations without difficulty.
The governor also urged the pilgrims to intensify prayers for lasting peace, stability, and prosperity in Borno State and Nigeria as a whole.
