Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has launched a mobilisation drive for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates ahead of the forthcoming elections, urging party members and residents to sustain the gains recorded in security and development.
Zulum led the mobilisation rally at the Government House in Maiduguri on Sunday, shortly after returning from a strategic trip to the United States and Canada.
Despite a heavy downpour, party faithful and residents turned out for the gathering, which centred on consolidating support for the APC at the federal, state and legislative levels.
Addressing the crowd, the governor stressed the importance of continuity in governance, particularly in sustaining the relative peace and stability recorded in Borno State and the wider North-East region.
He attributed the security improvements to the combined efforts of the state and federal governments, noting that support from the Federal Government had contributed to infrastructure rehabilitation and the resettlement of displaced persons.
Zulum warned that a change in political leadership could jeopardise the progress made in addressing insecurity and rebuilding communities affected by insurgency.
“In the first four years of our administration, we worked hard to ensure the security of the lives of our people, and with the help of Almighty Allah, relative peace was attained,” he said.
He added, “Let us understand that the peace we are enjoying today is a result of our collective resilience and the federal government’s support.”
The governor called on APC members, community leaders and residents to mobilise support for all the party’s candidates, from the presidential level to the State House of Assembly.
“Let us support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, our gubernatorial candidate, Mustapha Gubio, and let us support all our National and State Assembly candidates,” Zulum said.
He also emphasised the need for a legislature that would work in cooperation with the executive arm of government to deliver democratic dividends to the people at the grassroots.
The rally marked the commencement of the APC’s mobilisation efforts in Borno State, with the governor urging party stakeholders to work collectively towards securing support for the party’s candidates in the forthcoming elections.
