Former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and ex-Senator representing Zamfara North, Senator Tijjani Yahaya Kaura, has formally announced his intention to contest for the Zamfara North Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking with journalists in Gusau, Senator Kaura said his return to the Senate race is driven by a renewed commitment to effective representation and improved welfare for his constituents, with particular emphasis on youth employment and educational development.
According to him, the rising level of youth unemployment in Zamfara North remains a major concern that he is determined to address if given another mandate.
“My decision is anchored on a sincere desire to serve my people and contribute to their development, especially in the areas of job creation and education, which remain critical investments for the future of our constituency,” he said.
He explained that youth empowerment would remain a central pillar of his legislative agenda, noting that many young people in the district frequently approach him in search of employment opportunities.
“During my previous tenure as Senator, we were able to facilitate employment for over 500 youths. If elected again, I am committed to expanding that effort to create opportunities for at least 2,000 youths across Zamfara North and beyond,” he stated.
Kaura stressed that his involvement in politics is not driven by personal gain, but by a commitment to development and service delivery.
“I am not in politics for material benefit. My focus has always been on development, youth empowerment, and improving the living conditions of my people.
“My aspiration is rooted in service, not personal enrichment,” he added.
He further outlined plans to prioritise poverty reduction, infrastructure development, and improvements in key sectors such as healthcare, education, and road networks.
Commending recent political engagements in the state, Senator Kaura praised the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara for what he described as a landmark stakeholders’ meeting that brought together key political actors.
He highlighted the presence of prominent figures, including former governors and senior political leaders, describing the gathering as a symbol of unity and renewed cooperation for the state’s development.
“The stakeholders’ meeting reflects a strong spirit of unity, trust, and shared responsibility for the progress of Zamfara State. It is a commendable initiative that should be encouraged,” he said.
Kaura also lauded Governor Dauda Lawal for convening what he described as an unprecedented political reconciliation platform, urging continued collaboration among stakeholders.
He called on residents of the state to support efforts aimed at fostering peace, unity, and stability, particularly in addressing ongoing security challenges.
“Zamfara’s development requires collective effort. I urge all citizens to support initiatives that promote peace, security, and sustainable development across the state,” he concluded.
