President Bola Tinubu has appointed Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan as the new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF).

Enitan’s appointment takes effect on August 27, 2026, when the incumbent Head of the Civil Service, Didi Esther Walson-Jack, is expected to retire upon attaining the mandatory retirement age of 60.

The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Wednesday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

Enitan, who hails from Osun State, is currently the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education and is the longest-serving Permanent Secretary in the federal civil service, having spent seven years and seven months in the position.

He has previously served in several strategic government establishments, including the Ministries of Police Affairs and Humanitarian Affairs, as well as the Office of the Vice President.

President Tinubu charged the incoming Head of Service with sustaining ongoing reforms in the federal civil service and strengthening efficiency in government operations.

The President also tasked him with promoting professionalism, accountability, merit and improved service delivery across the public sector.

Tinubu commended Walson-Jack for her contributions to the development of the civil service, acknowledging the reforms and initiatives introduced during her tenure.

He wished the outgoing Head of Service well as she prepares to retire from public service.

Enitan was born on December 12, 1966. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Banking from the University of Lagos in 1988 and later earned a Master of Science degree in Public Policy Analysis from Nasarawa State University, Lafia, in 2015.

He is expected to assume office on August 27, 2026.
