The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on Monday questioned the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, as part of its ongoing investigation into the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC).
Gbajabiamila honoured the Commission’s invitation and appeared before investigators at the ICPC headquarters in Abuja, where he gave a statement regarding the circumstances surrounding the emergence of the controversial agency.
His lawyer, Jiti Ogunye, confirmed the development in a statement, saying the President’s Chief of Staff fully cooperated with investigators and responded to all questions before returning to his official duties.
According to Ogunye, Gbajabiamila arrived at the ICPC headquarters at about 3:00 p.m. on Monday in compliance with the directive of President Tinubu for a comprehensive investigation into the PFIPC controversy.
He stated that his client provided testimony to investigators and has since resumed work at the Presidency.
The interrogation forms part of the ICPC’s wider probe into the activities surrounding the alleged fake Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council.
Earlier this month, President Tinubu directed the anti-corruption agency to carry out a thorough investigation into the PFIPC controversy following public concerns over the agency’s legitimacy.
The President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, had announced that the ICPC was mandated to conclude its investigation and submit a comprehensive report to the President within 30 days.
The Commission has yet to announce the outcome of its investigation, while further inquiries into the matter are ongoing.
